500 Jeffrey

Well, i have tricked myself into another rifle.

My FN 98 will be transformed into a close up rifle in the mighty 500 Jeffrey aka .Funfhundred Shuler.

Its still on the planning stage, but i have gotten in touch with a very good norwegian gunsmith who will make the rifleconversion. It will have a laminated stock, good open sights and a thick Pachmayr pad , barrelband sights, perhaps also a scopesight.

But i will put a singlestack magazine on it and why not a decent drop belly magazine on it aswell. Well im just looking forward to what the guys on the target range will say when "Kifaru" is unpacked and loaded

Will they let me shoot alone on the range ?

And on the running moose target range, what will they say there i wonder

when 570 grain solid thunders out in ca 2300 fps against the target that is more likely shot with a 6,5x55 or 308 or 3006 ??

in fact the metric designation of the original, from which the 500 jeffery was a copy, is 12,7x70 Schueler.
its a development from August Schueler, gunmaker in Suhl. This family still exist there but nobody work now as a gunmaker so what I know.
Krauts write this name with a umlaut.

Well its a interresting cartridge and it will be fun have a rifle in the 500 Jefferey in which Kynoch made a batch of ammo for beforre the war. Interrestingly enough, they loaded it with cordite powder .
