WTK: Can anyone comment on the Blaser S2 Doubles?
      #63493 - 04/10/06 06:29 AM

I have been looking earnestly for an economic double for my first piece. I less than $6500.00 to spend but would prefer to spend around $5,000.00 (hence the Chapuis interest) - I have seen forsale a Blaser double for under $7,000.00. Can the Board comment on these rifles? Thank You.

Can you please update your PROFILE with your location / COUNTRY.

Do a search on Blaser as we have had a few posts in the past, not that long ago - early this year.

I have not shot one but handled them and I write a brief report
on my thoughts.

I have a Blaser S2 safari DR. 470 NE. Super Luxus grade.
The wood is magnificent. The engravings are fantastic. I reload and found the rifle easy to regulate. I have settled for 115 grains of RL 22. Velocity averages at 2090 fps. I found this load very accurate with little variation between barrels and group of shots.

I know that there are a lot of arguments for and against this brand of rifle but I can only say that I like my rifle and find it easy to use. I have had no problems with the cocking mechanism.

Two days ago I shot a very large scrub bull from about 50 yards after a long stalk. I found the cocking mechanism easy to use and I reloaded quickly in this situation.

Originaly I was looking at purchasing a used English rifle but decided against second hand as I didn't want to get some other persons problem. I considered other brands but for what ever reason I chose the Blaser. I have no regrets and I believe that I have a fine rifle.
