Johann's Mauser 10.75x68
      #63280 - 01/10/06 01:04 PM

I have received this picture of a beautiful old MAuser 10.75x68 from Johann (Collath 500_BPE) and I'll let him write about it in detail.

He says: I want to send the above mentioned photo of my old original Mauser 10,75x68 rifle to "Mauser Forum Photos & Archive" but I cannot find the correct mail address.

There isn't an "email address". Members need to post the photos themselves. Occaisionally I can do it but wouldn't be able to for quite a while - as I have my own photos and fims to work for quite a while!

That is a lovely rifle. Must be nice to use on moose hunting in Sweden or elsewhere. (I might have the wrong "Johann"?)

Very nice. Thanks for posting Mehul.

Collath 500_BPE, do you know the year of mfg and have you taken any game with it yet?

NitroX,

It is indeed a different Johann (two n's) from Austria. His login ID is Collath 500_BPE.

I shall happily post pictures for him as long as he wants me to. In the meantime, I have asked Johan to help him with instructions in German if he would like to post pictures himself.

Adam,

I am always happy to see fine rifles and it is as pleasant for me as it is for other friends here. Glad you liked the pictures - Johann is really a lucky man.

Good hunting, everyone!

Nitrox,
You are right and perfectly wrong The beautiful rifle is not mine but I wished it was- the bitter truth is far from my wishes.

Johann, tell us more about the rifle, manufacturer, features etc. Best is to open a free account at http://photobucket.com/ or any other photo hosting sites if you want to post pictures. Feel free to ask if you need any help.

Cheers
Johan

Hi Johan,
for the moment I`m very busy but meanwhile some further
details to my Mauser rifle.
We have the gun since around 100 years in our family, but I dont know who was the gunmaker for this custom made rifle. The gun no. is 15662 and the barrel length is 580mm.The receiver is case hardened and works perfectly. The barrel is made from KRUPP steel and is nitroproofed around
1900 and also actualy in Ferlach-Austria.
I use original RWS cartriges with production no.45VQ.These are full jacket bullets .423 - 347 grains.
The velocity ft/sec is 0-yds=2230, 50=2070,100=1920,150=1790,200=1670.
The energy ft/lbs is 0-yds=3830, 50=3300,100=2840,150=2470,
200=2150.
P.S.:The barrel form is 1/3 octagonal and than round with a full machined rail.
regards Johann

Is the RWS 10,75x68 "factory" ammo still available/in production?

Those are really classy rifles. They could have a home in Virginia any time!

Thanks for posting.

Yes we had some discussion about that. I thin that if I can find rifle, I buy some RWS factory loads, reloading dies and RWS powders. Testing is funniest part of new a rifle and caliber.

The e-guns Mauser is little bit too expencive, for me now (my budget went to the Peterlongo Mauser).
Now I have one fine (and too cheap) 9x57 Mauser in sight, so the 10,75x68 Mauser is not optional.

Think of the tales those fine old rifles could tell if only they could talk

Very nice old classic. Are the current factory loads suitable for heavy African game today? It seems most literature has unfavorable reviews of the cartridge, which I am sure was attributed to the bullets loaded in such.

Hallo
you can get rests of factory RWS FMJ loads here in Germany for sure, but recording to Harald Wolf www.hataritimes is it recommended to change the bullets for Woodleighs, because the fullmetals from RWS are too soft for heavy big game, yet no problem for Antelopes whatever kind, I shoot wild boar with it and a friend boar and stag

I don't think that one would have too many tales to tell! It looks to be in exquisite condition. A truly superb rifle! If it had been dragged around any of the places mentioned I'm sure it would be more than a bit ragged.
