Well, that's what I told myself... Just sent off the zukes for a Merkel Mdl 30 drilling in 16x16x7X57R with a S&B 4X in claws. It has decent game scene engraving and appears to be a straight gun.

MAN! I'm glad that drillings are only about 1/3 the cost of double rifles, and that DRs don't possess my soul like three barrels do.

It is #976771146 on GA, but don't try to curb it on me. I've already sealed the deal and sent the loot.

By the way, this seller seems straight and has some very nice shotties at decent prices.

Congrats on the new piece!! I spoke with Dale a few months ago and I agree he seems like a stand up guy.

Seems like you got a good gun for a good price. Let us know how she shoots.

Looking forward to report on the Model 30. I was eyeballing that myself..looks good. I've got drilling on the brain as well. The only cure is.....buy more!

Congratulations
I almost bought another Sauer just because I like them so uch, but why do I need 2 [well it would be 3 since my wife has one too] "drillings". I figured out what I need is a "double rifle drilling".
One not too expensive that I can use on an ATV or in foul weather.

I just last week turned down a very straight DR drilling in 8X57JR and 16ga 65mm for $4,000.00. It was a wide-ass Double Kersten gun that was immaculate.

I opted for a Geyger-Berlin two barrel set drilling just offered me...while I'm just about flat broke...
1st set in 16x16x9,3X74R w/Schmidt & Bender 1x4 Vari in claws.
2nd set in 20x20x243 w/1.5X6 S&B in claws.

This set cost less than the DR drilling, and it leaves me pretty well set for drillings. I have just enough $$ left for a tube of Preparation-H.

Noticed your reference to a Geyger two barrel set.

I assume this is O. Geyger of Berlin?

I have a combo by this maker and am undertaking research into the company. I have found that virtually without exception this makers products were of best or very high quality and most have survived in very good condition. Most of his products are also characterised by fine English style rose bouqute stlye engraving which is most un German like.

If you have assess to the two barrel set could you possibly advise as to the following.
1. Number in front of the top lever
2. Number (serial) on the action and barrels
3. Action type and quality
4. Quality of wood.
5. If at all possible a photo of the gun.
6. Date code

I have managed to track down some 13 examples of this maker and am building a good picture of his products, but need more data as I don't have all serial numbers & dates for the 13.

I also have found the makers address. I probably have more info on the maker than anyone else, as everyone I asked, had virtually nothing.

Hope you buy this one as they are beautifully made and not to be missed.

The Merkel arrived today, and it is better than I had hoped. I also got the Geyger receiver and stock, so I can start minor stock repair at the scallop.

If you ever have dealings with Dale Nygaard know that you could trust him with your wife or daughter...even with your best gun dog!

Dale is importing some fine German guns. He and the maker are working on a "standard" grade boxlock DR in 450/400 at a price of around $12,000.00. I've seen photos of some of the maker's work, and it is superior.

Dale has some nice sxs shotguns on GunsAmerica in the Shotguns-German section. He has advertised an interesting SXS Sauer 16ga w/scope for slugs...for $550.00
