I'm sure there are those people who would be interested in this package, but not me.

Provide me with a complete action that has been heat treated, but not blued/color cased/surface hardened and a mono block, with or without stocks... I hate wood working so make stocks an option. With or without barrel blanks and ribbing. Then, you might get my attention.

But the whole idea for me is to come up with a double rifle without having to plunk down a big wad of money all at once and to learn how double rifles are built and regulated

I can come up with the bucks to buy a donor shotgun and use the existing wood..

Then later buy a couple of barrels.

Got reamers in the tool box.

Buy the materials to build the build barrels and most importantly learn how to do that.

Add sights.

Without even doing the math, I'll have way less than $6800 in materials. Yes my labor and time are worth something, and by doing it myself, I don't have to pay the money for that time and labor.

My guess is you can't compete with me. But of course my gun will never compete with yours.

This is the only way I will ever be able to have a double rifle.

For others who can afford it and want a rifle built more to their specs your package sounds like it might bethe way to go.

I think you may reallyhave something there!!
The reason for the scarcity of Doubles is obviously the cost.
The problem with most hunters is they are not gunsmiths.

How about a somewhat different approach?

I think that thatyour suggestion is an excellent approach for those with gunsmithing abilities. but another
alternative might be for you to sell rifle components, ie a completed action in the white with the addition of other components such as various barrels and wood sequentially at a later date. A schedule of costs for the basic components with the guarantee of acess of all needed components over a specified period of time and the guarantee of certified final proofing the final product to make it work would be appealing to some.The concept is that the outlay for the Double would not be endured at one bite.

The result could be an individual paying for various components of a Double over a finite period of time to be assembled and proofed at some later agreed date . Someone could even obtain multiple barrels for the same action and build a gun that way!

Could this be done with Heym components?

Building a Double on a time plan.Strange, but after all time is money.

I don't mean to muscle in on new-guy's post but I understand what DoubleD is saying. Persoanlly if I had the $6,500 dollars in the first place I'd have been looking for a used Merkel or Chapuis rifle. However I agree that it's be great to be able to buy just actions or actions and monoblocks. I'd love to get an underlever (snap action) sized for the 9.3x74r. The trigger plate action I've been working on for over a year now is in it 10 change and still isn't quite right.

I know where there are some European trade actions sitting. They are all boxlocks with false sideplates and ejectors. There are also some chopper lump barrels of various calibers. You could basically get all the same parts for about $3,500. However this supply id really limited to what is on hand and won't be replaced. I can try to get a listing of what's available if some are interested.

For $6,500 i'd take a chance at an auction, buy an old bpe, or get someone to make a dr from a shotty.....
