PDQ Access to your Ammo When You Need It
      #61117 - 13/08/06 08:32 PM

Hi, I need some advice as to what you have found to be the best way to carry your Ammunition for quick access.

I have been looking at the DOUBLE DUTY CARTRIDGE CASE from Trader Keith.

This is a link to the Galco Leather site http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterA3.asp?ProductID=1262&CaliberID=269

Has anyone actually used this case, is it a bit gimmicky or does it actually work if you need it?

My other option is the DOUBLE RIFLE SIX PACK again from Trader Keith.

This is a link to the Galco Leather site http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterA3.asp?ProductID=1259&CaliberID=269

This is a more traditional case and I will probably go for this if the Double Duty isn’t recommended.

Sorry, I would put the photos of the cases here but not sure how so if someone can help I would appreciate it.

My other question is if I order the cases for a 470 NE, will my 450/400 3” NE rounds fit OK, there doesn’t seem to be any cases made specifically for the 450/400 3” NE.

Any input from users would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Phil (Off to Africa Soon )

Phil:
Here's a fairly comprehensive thread dealing with this subject a while back:

Previous Thread

Lately I've been "field testing" a flop-open ammo wallet made by our very own talented saddler Al McKenzie. It holds 8 cartridges, stitched in pairs, and is equally at home with .400 Jeffery, .470 NE. and .577/.500 No.2.

Very happy with its performance so far!

PHIL , I have a couple of these DUBLE DUTY s, and they work like a charm!

The 450/400NE is made on the 45o NE case, but I think I'd order one made for the 470NE, as they are the same length, and they cartrides need to be loose in the Duble Duty, to work properly. I use the Duble Duty in conjunction with a drop open similer to the one Marakai uses, that I made myself, only mine holds twelve rounds, also stiched in two rows of six rounds, in pairs. That is two in the rifle, two in the Double Duty, and twelve in the drop open pack.

With you double rifle loaded, then with both barrels fired, the Duble duty drops two rounds in your hand, rims down. I load with my left hand, with the Double Duty on my immediate front of the left hip, with the 10 round behind that on my left hip. Works like a charm!

Gentlemen, many thanks for your views, looks like it’s the Trader Keith Double Duty and Six Pack for me.

I use a buttstock shell carrier on most of my rifles, especially my doubles and singleshots.
I also use either the shell carriers on my pants belt or when in Africa I have a belt for each of my rifles thart holds 15 rounds so I can quickly change between calibres.

Phil,
Look at this setup. It is an Uncle Mike's Sidekick wide stiff nylon web belt and elastic rifle cartridge slides. It doesn't cost a bunch. You can get extra holders and load softs in one solids in the other. Whatever your fancy!

Non traditonal, cheap and it won't turn your brass funny colors! I've had this rig for 10 years now. Still gong strong and expanding with my waist size!

Hope all is well over on your side of the pond!
