DoubleD,

No excuse and no I don't feel sorry for you here is the plan.

1T 234 Fri, 01 Sep 2006 15:15 16:25 R429.00
1T 209 Sat, 02 Sep 2006 07:00 08:10 R369.00

This is a quote I just got from www.1time.aero

So you will miss a couple of hours work and be back in action by 9 am on Saturday.

BTW driving up and down with my bakkie to Durbs and back will cost me at least R1400.00 with fuel and tollgates. Not to mention the 12-14 hours in the car. So for R900 I think it is a bloody good deal.

Were it so simple...

I was supposed to be up to attend some briefings at the embassy. But then one of my staff here in Durban decide to go on R&R that week, so I have to stay in town to back up the other member of my staff.

I suppose I could have just cancelled the guys R&R so I could come up. But that would have got me a labor dispute and ticket home.

In the mean time the money I had budgeted for me to come up got re budgeted for the wife and I to go to Ladysmith for 5 days in November to shoot in the Provincial shoot and tour the battle fields. She was quick let me tell you!

So I suppose two things need to be done to make amends, let me know when the next biannual NE.com RSA Conference is and when it's my turn for R&R I go to NitroX's B&B.

No hunting yet. Another reason I am disapponted about not coming up I was going to pump you guys.

I'm not interested in a full blown safari, but a weekend or day hunt for one animal or a biltong or cull hunt might be interesting.

This close to retirement flexible funds become pretty rigid.

Still can't make it up Friday. But that may not be all bad.

The reason I can't come up is to cover for one of my staff who is on leave. I have to be with in one hour’s response time to assist the other employee if needed.

Last weekend at the gun club, one of the club members asked me if I was interested in going hunting with him on his farm. I told him yes and asked about fees. Oh he says just get your license and permits for the animals and come with me for the afternoon, I just don't like to hunt alone he said.

He wanted to go this weekend. Well I explained about being on call and having to respond within one hour to the Office. No problem he says the farm is 45 minutes from downtown Durban.

This afternoon he took me to KZN Hunting and Conservation Association for Licenses and permits. He tells the license agent that I need permits Nyala and Warthog for sure. Add Kudu and Zebra. He says he has wildebeest on his permit but he doesn't know which wildebeest is which just give me both wildebeest. He said we probably won't get back to where the impala are, but get one anyway. 97 Rand later I am ready to go day hunting.

Even better the guy is going to let me use his rifle.

This is going to be more like hunting back home than a safari, but who cares it's hunting.

Now it would have been nice to join all you guys up at Jaco's but this is a nice consolation.

Jaco,

Please greet everybody.
I have considered to hop and join You as a pleasant surprise as I did with ErikD.
Sadly, I am on guard and I cannot transfer it.
Please greet all our friends and confirm John that I'll join him in october in OZ.

JB,
It would have been a pleasant surprise. We will have a toast on you, Douglas and Steve. The latter 2 are working, as if Steve can say his is work, hunting is not work it is fun. I am very anxcious to meet John, but I think I must play a prank on him when he arrives at the airport.

Jaco

I wished I could have come. It would have been one of the best evenement in my life and such a huge surprise for all of You.

Your speaking of making a prank makes me think of the way You welcomed our friend Wink in Joburg airport, just playing the drunkard.
Try with John, should he be a bit tensed, it might work.

Please have more than too much fun, my spirit is with all of You.

Well what an interesting evening it was
First of all I must congratulate Johnn again ons his not one but two eles.

Not as many people pitched up but it turned to be even better and cozy. I had a long day behind me driving up to Ellisras and back the same day so I was a bit tired but made it up to half past 12.

Johnn handed out fabulous cigars for all of us and you can imagine what it looked like everyone having a fat cuban in their hands.

Before I forget the food was excellent with a very nice appetizer as well. Lots of "Garlic"

All and all I think we had a very succesfull NE get together in SA. Enjoy your rest of the holiday Johnn.

Well gent's sounds like you had a marvelous time. While you were out enjoying yourself, I can assure you that no weapons of mass destruction passed through the port of Durban...well at least not inthe 5 containers I examined.

Probably better that I wasn't there, I am a nonsmoker of the worse kind, a former smoker, non smoker...still sorry I couldn't make it.

My consolation prize was to go on my R97 hunting trip yesterday afternoon. Game was spotted, none taken. This was hunting the style I am use to. No PH to tell you where to go or what you were looking at. Move at your own speed in your own direction when you want. Not something I would fly 10,000 miles to do.

I will post that in another thread perhaps next week when i go back.

The first RSA NE party is history. I took John to the airport yesterday afternoon. He joined up with his wife Christine for their holiday in the Cape.

I think we had a good time on Friday evening, the cigars John had offered us was outstanding. It was the first time that I finished smoking a full cigar, there is a big difference between RSA cigars and Cuban cigars. The Cubans can roll a cigar.

I welcomed everybody with a shot of Hakkiesdraad, John traveling the furthest was first in the row after I demonstrated how it must be dranked. We had fun for the rest of the evening and eventually went to bed at around 01h00. Needless to say we slept in a little bit on Saturday morning.

I am sure John brought the Springboks some good luck, they won their first match in the tri-nations series, Thanks John.

I had a look at his photos on the Elephant hunt, he got over 700 photos. We will see some quality photos once he is back in Oz.

Some of the members missed out on the party due to work or illness. It would have been good to have them with us but the unexpected Murphy will always wreck plans.

I wish John and Christine a wonderfull holiday in the Cape, enjoy the SA wines and have fun.
