RIFLED BOLT ACTION SHOTGUN BY SAVAGE(AUSSIE ONLY)
      #60394 - 26/07/06 09:26 PM

At present no one is importing this 12 gauge rifle into Australia
The 12 gauge from hell is built on the same heavy duty front locking action.
What I am looking for is expressions of interest in this firearm to gauge whether it is worth importing a dozen or two..
They retail in the U.S. for around $ US 500-00.

Let me know your thoughts on the above.

Alan,

What are you wanting to do with them ?

I think you may find it hard to sell them but that is MHO.

They have enough trouble selling Bolt Action Mossberg's
and the other one - both of which have open sights and shoot
slugs / brennekies OK as I have one of each.

And I paid $80 and $200 for mine.

I admit it doesn't have a rifles barrel but my way of thinking
I have both available to me whereas with a rifled barrel you
can really only fire slugs.

US$500 = A$714 at .7 exchange rate (use .7 as worse case scenario as exchange rate is fluctuating)
$714 x 12 = A$8568
AirFreight = A$900 minimum
Customs Fees etc etc = A$300 minimum
Duty = A$856.80
GST = A$856.80

ESTIMATED TOTAL = A$11481.60 - I call this a conservative figure

Therefore the Landed Cost of the guns is (at a minimum)
A$11481.60 divided by 12 = A$956.80 per gun.

I find it hard to believe that people would spend $1000 on a Bolt action Shotgun.

Maybe worth giving it a go.

Nigel,
I talk to a lot of young hunters around the traps that would love to own a big bore rifle but dont have the finances to do it.
The 12 gauge Savage 210 gives them the oppertunity to own a big bore with ammo readily available at a reasonable price.

I am talking about importing at wholesale prices,makes a difference!

You forgot to mention that neither of your bolt action shotguns have front locking lugs.

The SAVAGE 210 does !

So let these young shooters live the dream instead of pissing on their camp fire !

Alan,

I wasn't "pissing on their camp fire", just being a bit realistic.
I am more than hapy to help people find guns and get into big bores.

Go ahead, prove me wrong - I would be glad to admit I was wrong
but I just don't see YOUNG people buying a very ONE dimensional gun.

Even at Wholesale prices (which I know as I buy from some of the biggest distributors in the US),
it doesn't change things that much - so take $200 off per gun, good luck.

I just checked with 2 firearms dealers that I supply. The answer was:-
1. Mossberg's and Marlin's 12G bolt action shotguns with fully rifled barrels
have been available here in the past and may still be.
2. They both sold "a couple" but demand isn't high and at least one of the
importers and possibly both have dropped them from the stock list
3. The ones they sold were sold for about A$590 Retail Inc GST.

Good luck.

ALAN

Yes, you asked for expressions of interest
"What I am looking for is expressions of interest in this firearm
to gauge whether it is worth importing a dozen or two..

You also said
"Let me know your thoughts on the above."

I did give you my thoughts and you didn't like it
but don't shoot the messenger.
