I was wondering if anyone has had any business dealings with Thad Scott? I saw a rifle I was interested in and have never dealt with him before. It's just my nature to check out people. Send a pm if you wish. Thanking you in advance

Buyer beware.

A few of the gun he lists on his web site come
from Australia and his description and the previous
description are somewhat different.
- in fact vastly different with a lot of important
and mostly "the not so good stuff missing".

And IF you do decide to do something, clarify
the inspection period and return policy IN WRITING
BEFORE you do anything.

A mate of mine in the US nearly got burnt.

Dutch,
Thad sells all manner of guns, from nearly useless to truely fine. A friend of mine has some of the nicest rifles I've ever handeled, and many of them came from Thad. Ask LOTS of questions. He will gladly return your money within 3 days. I would buy from him, and I have returned guns to him.

I agree with .500 Nitro. I pay attention to the double rifles mostly, and I've seen some in his inventory that were not represented accurately. When I've asked questions about them (proof marks, condition, etc.), he either didn't know much or was being evasive - I don't know which.

That doesn't mean that he doesn't get some nice stuff from time to time. If you're looking at a double rifle or other high end double gun, you'll need to get it evaluated by a pro anyway, no matter who you buy from. Unless one of the handful of guys qualified to do that is available to you locally (a true gunmaker as opposed to a gunsmith), it will be impossible to get it done within a 3-day inspection period. If you can't get at least 10 days to get your due diligence done in, buy from someone else.

I bought a Cogswell and Harrison SxS shotgun from him. The gun did not fit the description. The description and the answers to Q's over the phone indicated a used but good gun with plenty of service left. What arrived was a gun that wasn't far from needing a rejointing and with barrel thickness issues. I kept the gun but only because it was lefty and not much money.

Buyer beware.

JPK
