My Searcy Double.
      #58279 - 04/06/06 01:45 PM

Hi All

Thought it was about time I extracted a digit and told you about my Searcy double. I think it might be the first one in Australia but I'm not sure. I received it in April last year after being lucky enough to be the winner of a raffle on AR. It took 2 yrs to get to me after winning it and I had a few dramas with customs in Brisbane when the trigger pull for the left bbl was too light.

She is a deluxe boxlock with side plates and I chose to have her made in .470. Butch regulated her using IMR4831 but I have settled on 90 gr of RL15 with a 5 gr wad of polyester.

Here are a couple of photos of some scrub bulls. The first one was a one shot kill at about 80m using a Woodleigh soft point. I let my mate Bob have the honor of taking the first head of game with her and he did it in fine style. The bull (a really old fellow) took off at a run but only got as far as one step before coming to ground.

The second bull I shot with a soft and then a solid out of the left bbl as he tore off. He pulled up out on the flat so I gave him another soft into the shoulder as he quartered to me. I really don't think he was going anywhere as he looked pretty sick.

Hope you enjoy.

Cheers.

GG

Looks like a great rifle. What engraving did you get? Congrats on winning the rifle. Can't wait to get my Searcy in a few months.

Me too! and I had it till the final number came down puting me in second place! The last deal we had on AR, with the safari in Tanzania I came in second on that as well.
OH well! Looks like you've put the rifle to good use, and my congratulations are in order! GOOD SHOW, MATE!

You know Mac, since the rifle was paid for by the whole group, and since GG375 won the right of custody, I think that anyone who bought a ticket has a certain right of ownership. I think anyone who goes to AUS should get to use the rifle to hunt with when there.

I'm willing to admit I may be wrong so I'll put it to a vote.

Should ticket buyers be able to use the rifle GG375 won custody of while in Aus?
You may choose only one
Yes, absolutely that would only be fair
No, you're wrong and only Mickey and Mac should be allowed to use it.

Lets see some up close photos of the engraving, please!

If that isn't not possible, can you tell us what's on it?

Congratulations on the fine Rifle, caliber and head of game.
There is also a Searcy 500NE in Aus at the moment and I hope to be one of the next with a CLASSIC in 450/400 that is on order.
Are they the new LEICA ULTRAVIDS you have in the photo and what speed do you get from the load from your 470?
The load I use from my Merkel470 is; NORMA cases, 215 MAG primers, 103grns of AR2209 for 2150fps {less powder with BELL brass and using Woodlieghs.

GG 375,

A phenomenally beautiful rifle. Like other members, I, too, would request you for close up pictures of the engraving. Just show her off and make us slobber a bit.

Good hunting!
