I'll answer here as well!

Lapua,

Welcome to the forum.........

There's no doubt they're superbly made and very accurate - but for me, they're far too shiny, the barrel is too long, the removeable magazine is a real bloody nuisance and the safety catch located inside the trigger guard is not only a bad idea, it's a bloody dangerous idea. - One needs to think about the lowest (or dumbest) common denominator with these kind of things. Not everyone knows what they're doing with a rifle and not everyone has perfectly safe gun handling techniques. A safety catch so close to the trigger is sooner or later going to mean that someone, somewhere will have an A/D....... Possibly with disasterous consequences. I'd rather spend money on a good quality rifle of traditional design....... But of course, that's just my personal opinion - everyone is free to make their own individual decisions.........

There's plenty of good riflemakers out there - but I'm a big fan or Sabi Rifles in Nelspruit RSA. They make good quality rifles at what I consider a very good price. I don't know the cost of a Sauer nowadays but FWIW, you can buy a Mauser actioned, custom made to your own measurements, Sabi Rifle for something like R25000/ US$4K. compare the two and (IMO) the Sabi will win hands down.

I really like the idea of these takedowns. Easy to travel with. Plus extra calibres available too in the same 'platform'.

I would much prefer a Sauer 202 to a Blazer. My preference would be a Mauser98 takedown however as long as the receiver ring was made attached to the barrel rather than the action as is done with the Dakota and some European Mauser 98 type takedowns. Less wear (no wear) on the barrel thread as is the case in the Mauser 98 when the ring is part of the action.

Too me a good double rifle and a takedown boltaction series is the ideal travelling hunters battery.

Yup, I agree completely, Sauer rifles are very well made but some of the design should have been changed. Compared to many of the "factory made" rifles I think Sauer and Heym are alright. No, I won't even comment the balster r-93

Currently I own one modern push feed, all other rifles are of mauser design. My absolute favourites are ZG-47, Brno m-21 and m-22

Lapua,

They do export to Oz and recently sent 2 - .500 Jeffery to a forum member there. (Alan McKenzie) - You could send him a PM or e-mail for his opinion.

You might also like to take a look at www.sabirifles.co.za If you do e-mail the shop the man you need to contact is Eugene Combrink. - Let me know if I can do anything - The shop is only a 20 drive from my home.

They're just finishing a .458 Lott for a friend & client of mine and you could ask them to send you pics of that, if you want to see what a good "African" rifle looks like. Ask for pics of the Howe (458 Lott) rifle that Steve Robinson has been pestering them about.

I should add that(about 5 years ago) they re-built my rifle for me to a .500 Jeffery which is what I carry all the time I'm hunting and I've recently bought a 404 Jeffery from them to use as a company loaner for Dangerous Game hunts. - I'm delighted with both rifles......

West Africa huh? - That'll be interesting. - Have you asked about the hunting possibilities? -

My 404 is still at Sabi Rifles as I'm awaiting paperwork - but here's the .500. They used my Weatherby action and rebulit it to my spec. - They didn't do the extended mag - that was made by a buddy of mine...... Bear in mind that the 500 has had a few hard seasons.......

Mehul,

It's an 8X57IS made in 1951 and almost in mint condition, not used very much at all.

Hopefully it will draw blood this season

Let me add that if you use the search function here you should be able to find some pics of the two rifles Sabi made for a friend of Alan Mckenzie. - Alan posted the pics, so they'll be under his name.

When you have the Power-point slide open on your screen to your liking, hit the 'Print Screen' key on your keyboard. Then open your 'Paint' program and hit 'Paste'. The resulting image can then be cropped, resized, etc, and then saved as a jpeg or gif for uploading to your photo-server.

You should be able to save an individual slide as a jpeg though, by right-clicking on the selected slide and 'save-as' before starting the show.

Nope, that doesn't work either. I also tried to open photoshop and import the image into that, in the hope I could save it from there..... but it tells me I need to check my security settings. I'll e-mail the shop and ask them if they will just e-mail me a few images........ It'll take a while though as I go to Tanzania tomorrow on business and don't get back till next week........
