droplock101

That is one of the most wishful posts I've ever seen.

I have one in 400/360 and it is not for sale.

The reason I said the first statement is that
I had the choice to buy 3 DR's about 5 years ago,
a Sidelock, Boxlock and a WR Droplock.
I went for the WR droplock, one of the reasons being
I didn't think I would be offered another one.

I was right - I haven't seen another one offered within
easy reach since.

Good luck in your endeavours and I hope you have
a lot of money as they don't come cheap.

How about a 9.3X74R?

Well I'm prepared to be surprised, but I can't imagine that the 9.3x74R was the original chambering.
A re-chambered .360, or completely rebored perhaps?
A look at the barrel-flats would be enlightening...

Bloody nice rifle otherwise.

Marrakai,

I agree.

It also doesn't look like a best quality and droplock101
wants a best quality.

Thanks guys!!!

I already new of that gun, and pretty well keep up to date on all the dealers lists throughout the globe. I posted a wanted ad, hopeful I would find some privately held guns...

Also Westley didn't make a 9.3x74r, and just about every 400/360 you will find has been re-chambered because the calibre is so unpopular with the faithful.

Tony Galazan has a best 400/360 that has sat on his shelf for over a year with no offers. That gun could be bought for $18,000 or so if anyone here should have interest contact Lou or Tony at Galazans.

Though the gun is listed as original and unaltered it is not - as Westley did not offer flip peep sights inletted behind the safety grill like this one has. I have refered to numerous vintage Westley catalogs and cosulted with kevin at westley richards, and we both agreed the gun is not as described.

The 9.3 at WLM is rechambered, rebored, and reproved from .400/.360 Westley Richards.

No, the conversions of .400/.360s to 9.3X74R aren't done because the .400/.360s are so "unpopular with the faithful". You have to remember that pristine .400/.350s and .350 No. 2s are butchered just as fast in England. These conversions to 9.3 are done for the European market only. Paul Roberts has been doing them for years because his European clientele will pay a great deal more for them that way. Here in the US, a nice original .400/.360, .400/.350, or .350 No. 2 will bring substantially more than one converted to 9.3.

I agree that the .400/.360 Westley at CSM isn't original, at least the bear on the floorplate isn't. I'm not convinced about the tang sight. Many, many, many British double rifles left the makers with options that were never listed in a catalog. They're hand made guns and every one of them was a one-off. They left the maker the way the customer ordered them. Like a Holland "Royal" .465 with a straight Greener rib extension and crossbolt, or a Holland "Royal DeLuxe", their very best DR, built as a flat-back with a through lump (which a best gun ain't supposed to have).

BTW, the Westley at WLM in the link above has actually been gone for some time now. They have another droplock 9.3, also converted from .400/.360. It's built on an action with screw grip top bolting, as opposed to Westley's C-Type.

Certainley didn't mean to offend those with 400/360's to each his own, it's just every time the calibre is mentioned here in the states all you see is peoples dust from there shoes as they run in to the sunset. With this facial expession

droplock

No offence taken.

However I think the situation is changing with the 400/360
just like it has with the 450/400's.

A few years ago you couldn't give a 450/400 away, now everyone
wants one.

You haven't been keeping up. Doubles in .400/.360 Purdey sell quite well now. I helped two friends locate .400/.360s during the last year. They're not easy to find anymore and nice rifles bring strong prices.
