I was digging through some African hunting books this morning, and I ran across a title that I picked up at the Jo-Berg airport a couple of years ago, and it's well-worth owning:
"Hunting Africa -- A Practical Guide" by GP SWAN, DJ Bates, & PL Smit
Published by J.L. van Schaik Publishers, 1064 Arcadia Street, Hatfield, Pretoria, RSA (2000)
This book is very interesting and is one of the best general guides to African hunting that I've read.................

That may be the same book Louis at the Afton Guest House in Jo'burg was selling but had run out of stock when I was there. First printing sold quickly and the second printing was Afrikaans only . I think he found some English copies later as emailled me about them (I had asked him to).

I've got a copy! I too bought it in the Jo-berg airport back in 2000. An excellent book and worth finding a copy. Good descriptions of each species (one per page) with species descriptions and distribution maps. This takes up a little less than one half of the book. (The copy I have is 350 pages in total.) Good chapters on rifles and calibers, ballistics, shot placement, etc. A chapter each on measurements for Rowland Ward and SCI with methods, illustrations, etc.

Amazon.com doesn't have it. Barnes & Noble has it listed but is out of stock right now. Hopefully they will get it in the future.
