How many .600NE Double owners do we have here??

I am now "Heavy" into the BIG Bores and wondering how many .600NE owners are here and what types do you own(Holland,Westley,Jeffery,etc) and your experiences with it on what game and how you like it?I have a 1915 Osborne Dbl and love it,taking it to Tanzania this October....Thanks!

One of our members has two 600-577 Rewas, a "wildcat" in it's day made by necking the 600 NE round to 577 and hot rodding it a little. I'll let him respond to this post. The rifles are among the most beautiful ones I have seen pictures of.

Tom,

I used to own a Heym express rifle in .600 NE. Recoil was on par with a 30 m.p.h. auto accident. The fastest that I could shoot it was 1 round every 10 minutes because it took me that long to recover from the nausea induced by pulling the trigger. My practical maximum was 3 shots per day.

The Heym was an excellent rifle, nicely presented, quality workmanship, great sights and very accurate. I never shot it off the bench but I could put 3 shots into a 3 inch circle offhand at 50 yards, over a 30 minute time frame.

With a better recoil pad and a couple of mercury tubes in the butt, the Heym would have been manageable.

Have a friend GD who said he would shoot ANYTHING once!

He shoots large bore rifles up to 338/375 class so he thought he would take on a 600 NE Double, no problem.

He shot a 600 NE with an aggressive stance leaning forward and described it as similar to a head on with a semi!! He ended up with temporary blurred vision, right cheek pain, and falling backward to the ground with a bruise on his shoulder and poor use of that shoulder for days.!

GD no longer makes the "shoot anything" statement anymore!

IMHO I think I could handle a 500 NE, but a full bore 600 NE is past what I am willing to tolerate!!
