Example of a "Bolstered" or "Reinforced" double rifle action.

Does the bolster really help to make the action stronger or is it mainly for aesthetics?

I don't know the physics of it but I know Holland use it on the 375 Flanged Magnum but not the 375 2 1/2 NE (in most cases in the past anyway).
I would have to say it would have to add something to the strength as it is a fair lump of metal around the edges where it is needed.

Question to those far more knowledgible than myself.
Does Bolstering supposedly create more surface area to disperse the force of the shot over a larger area? If so then the % of additional area would seem to be small and the "clamshell" action more effective. I am certainly no engineer. Am I right?
Is bolstering mainly for cosmetics?
