My deepest condolences. This is first time I am reading this thread. No words can express what you must feel, but Kyle would be so proud to have a father like you... Agree with bwananelson - you can't see him or touch him but he is there...and always will be!

Hey little man, I am thinking of you constantly. Still missing you like crazy every single day. 5 years ago today was the worst day in my life. I wish I could have gotten home earlier to save you. God knows how much mom and I miss you all the time. Still lots and lots of tears shed at different times. Love you so much, and hope to see you in heaven some day. Tell uncle Joe hi for me. Have you gotten him settled in over the last 5 months?? love you buddy always!!

bigdog, how are you doing?

I too have lost a child. Probably the only child that I'll ever have. He now sleeps cradled in the strong arms of my grandparents, as he shares their plot.

It ended up costing me my marriage. That and 9/11, as the USG couldn't do without my services for a couple of years and at the same time my ex also needed them. I never suspected staying in the reserves was going to prove such a mistake.

But when it all shakes out, life is still better than the alternative. And I realized I'd be letting a lot of people down if I just let myself go. Despite what I've lost I've still got parents, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. So I had to pick myself up and move. And take care of myself, if for nobody's sake but theirs.

So, how are you doing? Are you taking care of yourself?

I am trying to. I still have 4 other children, but they are growing up, with one married and another getting married this summer. We all handle Kyles death in a different way. I still trade, buy, and shoot lots of guns. I lost my twin brother 5 months ago to cancer and we were extremely close even for twins. So it has been a rough patch of time for us. We will make it though. I still love God and know that they are both in a better place. I just hope to join them someday when my time arrives. Still does not keep you from missing them like crazy down here. My wife and I lean on each other a lot during the rough times. I realize that life goes on and you have to do the best you can to handle things. So we keep trying, but it is a constant battle.

G'Day Fella's,

I feel for you both but you have to remember that if or when you hit Rock Bottom, Don't Forget To Bounce, back up!!!
I have had my share of less than pleasant things happen in my life and I hit Rock Bottom!
I didn't like it down there, so I Bounced back up and I'm currently going great guns!!!

I have heard a number of great sayings when I have been over in New Zealand hunting and one of the best is, "Tough Times Go, Tough People Stay"!

So it's best to focus your attention on what You Still Have!
But obviously, Never Forget what you have lost!!!

Sorry fella's, I'm not a doctor, I've just been through The Mill of Hard Knocks and I learn't from it!

Hope that helps

Best Wishes!
Homer

Guys, thanks for the kind thoughts.

I can't speak for bigdog, I can only speak for myself.

First off, don't feel sorry for me. It only makes things worse.

Second, Homer, you're spot on. What you point out as being important is exactly the anchor I've been holding onto. What's left that's important.

Bigdog is right about many things. It's not easy. Sometimes I have to remind myself to take a shower, or make my bed. But I've learned something. If you herd your worthless butt along the intended path, eventually your spirit follows.

It's not easy. But it's possible to create habits that help you cope.

Here's something in the "news you can use" category.

Love your wives.

Buy her flowers. Buy her candy. Take her out to dinner.

She deserves to be appreciated, doesn't she? After all, you chose her.

The bottom line is this. If she needs you, and you're not there, it's over.

I learned this the hard way. I'll never make the same mistake twice. If you're smart, you won't make my mistake once.

I have no words for you Bigdog ... it is difficult to express those kind of feelings with words.

Maybe is the worst thing can happen to a father, i have one little son ... so just i will pray for him.

"Requiescat in pace Kyle"
