A hunter by the name of Wayne Lu took an Asiatic Water Buffalo which scored 130 6/8 SCI! Taken in Northern Territory, Daly River Area. Here is the Link;

What do you guys think?

From the little I know of the species this seems like a beyond exceptional trophy. What is the largest buff you guys have seen? Is this really that huge? Could it be some kind of canned hunt. Do you guys know of the area or outfitter (Australian Big Game Safaris)?

bulldog,

That trophy is not beyond exceptional and
achievable in Australia.

However, WITHOUT wanting to question the trophy,
it COULD be a Bullock which grow very long
but thinner horns and until we know the Story
the length will be the same at death anyway.

After a Bullock dies, the Horns shrink
a lot more than Big Bull Buffalo horns.
I have a reasonably big set of Bullock horns on my
back porch and they have shrunk enormously.

The 2005 Woodleigh Bullet Brochure had
an Australian on the cover with a Buffalo
with a SCI Score of 132. I believe that the PH
on this occasion was Graham Williams who
posts on this forum and both the PH and client
are well known and respected.

The record is a lot bigger than that !

Excuse the ignorance but what is the difference between a bullock and a Bull Buffalo?

A bullock has no nuts !!!

and IMHO, it's not an ignorant question
as we all started by asking questions at first)

The bull shot by Colin Lane that features on the front of the Woodleigh catalog was an unguided hunt.
Graham Williams was not Colins guide..
Mel Burton did a full body mount of the animal which is now here in Mandurah.
Colins bull measured 49L 47.5R 18 L 18R =132.5 and most definately a bull !
I have a set of horns and skull simular to the one taken by Lu however mine is a cow.
Nitro 500 is right in saying that it is possibly a bullock(a mature steer) or it could be a cow.
Regardless they are bloody huge and a worthy trophy.
We Aussies are generally not into canned hunts especially when it comes to buffalo.

Alan,

Thanks for that re Colins.

I totally agree, "Regardless they are bloody huge and a worthy trophy."

Bulldog - Bulls, Bullocks, Cows - they can all be very big, can all charge and kill you
and you have to hunt them all the same.

Nice bull/bullock/whatever for sure!
I could be wrong but the bases look too good for a cow.

Allan I have to agree with you.
The bases are squarer and wider, its the tremendous size that makes them look small.
