The only thing I put up my nose is my finger, and the occasional wad of Vicks when I get stuffy.

Based on the symptoms you're experiencing, I think you need to cut back your charge by @ 10%. With that charge you'll just rustle the curtains a bit, and not blow out the windows.

WOW! For the first time in my life, I'm speechless (except for the time my jaw was wired shut). We'll definitely have to make a plan for this!

I found the .458 was capable of double-holes in our Northern Hoary Marmots up to 30 lbs. They were incredibly huge hogs for a guy raised in Ontario where a big pasture poodle being 13lbs. The large bore was sufficient and killed well but I expect the .416 would probably suffice if one wanted to go to a big medium.

I've considered going to the Woodleigh Solids, but thought better of it. I'll continue using their soft points so as to deliver maximum hydrostatic shock to the beasts.

Hydrostatic shock with the big bore-

Doesn't that start to happen somewhere above 2400fps?
I've seen loads for the 250gr BarnesX up past 2700fps, that'd be misty puffclouds outta whatever barnyard varmint comes your way via the .458winmag.

Whooogolly!
I think you could vaporize the better part of a coyote's midsection with that kind of load, it'd completely dissappear a skunk or raccoon.

Tinker, we can get hydrostatic shock from virtually any loading, in any caliber, where I live. It's so darn humid that the high moisture level in the air creates the shock wave just from the heaviness in the air. Have you ever seen videos taken from the air, of an atom bomb explosion, you know, where you just see the shock waves ripple out on the grouond and through the air? Well, out here, when a bullet enters the thick, dense, humid air, that same kind of shock wave happens. I know. It's kind of hard to believe, but it's true. I mean, just because I'm a fisherman, would I lie?

Aaa-ha
You're talking about vortecies, like the little cloud-puff feathers seen off the tips and trailing edges of airplane wings up at altitude...
I've seen some pretty impressive mirage effect along bullet paths out in the desert. I think I can imagine what you're talking about.
What I was referring to was shock in the meat of the animal, where when hit hard enough the liquid (blood) in the animal's tissue becomes secondary projectiles the instant the bullet hits the meat -- creating much larger than bullet caliber wound channels with permanent and catastrophic tissue damage...
Essentially how the high speed 22s and 250s vaporize groundhogs.

Any way you cut it, big bore high zoot loads on little varmints equals sticky mess!
