BEST Buff TEACHING Video SHOOT??
      #53643 - 30/03/06 09:55 AM

I apologize beforehand if this has been asked repeatedly---

What is the best Buff video on shot placement from all angles
and the results of those hits?

Review of most publisized Buff charge videos makes it hard to determine the shot placement. Multiple shots are fired frontally and the animal falls. The Ele video's are much better at showing the shot placement and the results.

Any suggestions or favorites?

Sorry if this has been reviewed before-

Craing Boddington's buffalo hunting video is very good, and probably the best place to start.

While video can show how an animal might react to a shot, due to the difference in camera angle to shooter, it may not give a true indication of the track of the bullet. For this reason Kevin Robertson's "The Perfect Shot", or the book "Nyati" from African Hunter Magazine might be a better source from an educational point of view. The Boddington video is presented in an informative tutorial format, and does deal with bullet tracks from various angles and I am satisfied that I got good value when I bought it. It just seems to me, that the video together with the books, give a more complete picture than either one alone.

Both books are very good for education, I have both of them as well as Boddingtons vid. I also like "Horned Death" by John F. Burger. Burger loved hunting Buffalo and the book is almost comepletely about hunting buff. I am reading it for the second time right now actually. If you have not already read it I would recomend it.

I forgot to add that Capsticks Buffalo DVD is good as well. I actually prefer it to CB's videos. I bought the box set of his DVD's. It includes all the big 5 as well as some PG. Very enjoyable, I like how he shows the parts of the hunt not normally seen on todays videos like taking out the tusks and the tusk nerve on the Elephant one.

You shoot a buff the same as you do a deer, an antelope, etc. No difference.

If you screw up the first shot and have to face a charge, then you should know where the brain is and how to hit it, and books are good for that. The brain is just above and behind the eyes. When the buff has his head up, you can brain him by shooting up his nose. Or you can wait a bit and spine him as he lowers his head to hook you when he comes in close.

But if you put the first bullet one third up his body and into the crease at the back of his shoulder, just as you'd do with any other ungulate, you'll wreck his heart and aorta and never have to take another shot, except for insurance.
