I have never heard of this maker. Any comments on the DR? Not interested in buying it just interested.

I have heard of the maker.

Looks like a high quality European gun
- Kisten ?Sp? locking system.

Not something I'd want with more modern O/U
available.

Hello 500Nitro
Would you care to expand on your comment?
What could be wrong with an O/U of that time frame?
The gun belongs to "Luv2safari" and I have an option on it.
The gun is post 1925 and probably pre 1944. "N. Jalot" was a high-end maker in Liege. They mostly worked for the trade.
I just ordered a book on the Liege makers and will have more info when I get it.
BTW, This is my first post on this wonderfully informative and civilized forum.

WildCattle

Nothing what so ever wrong with a gun on that frame - or era.

In fact it is an extremely strong frame and as I said before
and "high quality"

What I meant by my other comment is that "I" as in me
wouldn't want that gun.

Reasons
1. If I wanted an O/U 9.3 I would buy a modern one
without the Kirsten locking system - ie Beretta Gold or Silver Sable
2. I have used / Shot O/U guns both with and without the Kirsten system
and IMHO, I find the locking bar get in the way of fast reloading - the same
as some of the large dolls heads on my English guns can also get in the way.
3. I don't collect old European guns and if I did buy a 9.3 x 74R it would
be as a shooter I could take anywhere and not worry about it getting damaged.

Thie above is MY opinion and not a reflection of the gun.

If it's what you want in a gun, go for it if everything looks good
to you. I would have confidence that it is being sold by Luv2safari.

It appears to be Merkel's own sidelock system, from what I have seen and from what I've been told by those in the know. I find Merkel actions on many of the pre war Belgian o/u doubles. The gun is still tight as a drum and regulates perfectly to the S&B 285gr loading. It doesn't shoot quite as well with Norma or RWS, but both shoot close enough to be perfectly adaquate. I use the BBF barrel set as much as the 9,3 set, as I like to take grouse and chucker while big game hunting. The bores are perfect, and the wood is as tight to the metal as the day it was first delivered. It has some of hunting dings, many gotten by me in Africa, and in NW Montana, hunting the clear cuts for deer and grouse.
