Fishing Rivers of India
      #52786 - 19/03/06 07:02 PM

I thought I would post this here instead of the fishing section.

While reading "Maneaters of India", Corbett relates a couple of fishing stories and I am wondering if there is any fishery left and if it is anything near what it was 75-100 years ago?

I watched a fella fishing for mahseer(corbetts dream fish) from the land and he eventually ended up chasing the fish from out of a coracle after it bolted down stream...the show was on cable and he was proudly highlighting the fish and fishing, pommy fella from memory....

The Mahaseer is a good fish for eating. It is quite abundant here, especially in the hub dam area of Baluchistan.Though I am not into fishing I did get a few and enjoyed it.

Indian food, good fishing and lovely women to look at . . . y'know, a trip that way is getting more and more interesting. Have to talk to Jim about this.

The Cauvery in South India had excellent fishing. Sadly the govt. took it over overfished it and now its done with! Friends went last week and caught one small 5 lb Mahseer. In the past they would catch several fish over 50lb and have caught upto 80lbs!
