Spanish actions???
      #52212 - 12/03/06 06:38 PM

In all I've read of building rifles on shotgun actions - here and elsewhere - I've never seen mention of using a Spanish action. Curious if there is some reason for this? I believe the current Spanish proof is 12,090PSI. Seems stout enough for many of the DR cartridges. Anyone wish to comment?

Hmmmm, guess not. Its that I have an Eibar gun someone cut the barrels back on so as to make it virtually useless as a bird gun but it's otherwise in excellent condition. Double lumps, crossbolt, side clips and bushed strikers. Much of the "work" done to others in converting is already there. It is a slimmer frame gun but I was thinking of sleeving her to 444Marlin. At around 10,000PSI it seems a good candidate. Anyone wish to comment now?

BTW - the figure quoted is of course breech pressure NOT chamber pressure!

Well the best thing to do is take a couple pics of the proof marks and post them so they can be deciphered. I say that because 12,000 PSI seems like an awful light proof load. If it was proofed at 12,000 PSI then the working load would be approx 9,000 PSI or approx 620 bar. That would be a very very light load. If it is a 1,200 bar proof load that is actually about 17,404 PSI. Thus the easiest way to help in a safe manner would be some pics of the proof marks.

Been away all week but will try to get some photos this weekend. The figures quoted are from the "Dictionary of Proof Marks".
