On Safari: A question.

When the client heads out with the PH, can the client bring two rifles, his primary and back-up?

I'm about to pick-up a scoped Dakota Model 10 in .375 H&H which is a very light rifle, hence easy to carry. If the gun bearer were to carry my heavy Jeffery, then based on the shot, I could shot either.

Or, shoot the Dakota then take the Jeffery big bore for any follow-up shot.

How much does a black-O-matic cost anyhow?

Very politically uncorrect. In the Central Africa Rep a not specialized helper is costing 2 $ per day,+ accomodations.

Weird question concerning 2 rifles. I am in the habit to hunt with a 375HH and a bow. I carry the bow, a bearer is carrying my rifle. When a snap shot is to be done, most of the time it's with the bow if the game is under 20 m. Beyond 20 m I have to collect my rifle, what makes me waste a couple of precious seconds and save any smart game most of the time. Sometimes, I want to let the bowhunting down.

Yes, you can carry a gun and have one of the trackers carry a gun. For that matter, you can have two trackers carry one gun each. I've carried a double (with open sights) and had a tracker carry a scoped 375 (should a longer shot or smaller "target of opportunity" present itself).

I have done what new guy suggest. Unless after elephant, in which case I was carrying my DR and the 375 was in the truck. You should carry the DR since if a close opportunity arises you will want to use it. If the opportunity is further away than you want to shoot with your DR then you may well have the time to switch.

Also if you bump into some elephants up close in the brush, which seems to happen often enough, you will just feel better with your DR in your hands.

I have found that a DR is so much more pleasant to carry that it makes up for a pound or more in weight. My scoped 375 weighs 9.5lbs and my DR 10.5lbs and I would pick the DR to hump all day; it just carries easier.

Because of a couple of run ins with nasty cows I think that when you have shot your DG and your DR is relegated to the truck, that the 375 with a soft up the spout and all solids below is the way to go.
