My Snares

I don't know if any of you trap or snare. I do run snare lines as I have poultry and they are constantly under attack by very nocturnal wild K-9's.

I hung this estrous female overnight.

Snaring has been a very effective way for me to control preditors that are too smart to be called in for hunting. Snares are much easier than traps, no descenting needed or baiting, just hang them right and walk away. Check them every day.

Vapo,

That one is already dead. They kill themselves. A dog will just stand there a bark but a wild k-9 will fight the snare and kill itself. They don't suffer, it happens fast.

PETA - People eating tasty animals....

This coyote will feed my chickens and the local crows. The crows keep the hawks away from the farm if I keep food out for them, stuff like this. Saves my chickens from death.

My hens are my employees, they produce a valuable product and this is one way of creating an effective "quality control".

AspenHill

Do you use "females on heat" to attract dogs / wild K9's ?

It seems to be the one method that brings them from
far and wide to one loation where they can be trapped, shot etc
- from much further distances than food.

Well done with that one.

Sorry to take so long to reply....

No scent is needed for snaring. Just find a place your quarry likes to travel and set up. They do most of the work just by going through.

I have a friend who is a Government trapper. It never ceases to amaze me the number of dead coyote carcasses around a good snare hole. If you catch one in a good spot then you will catch another. They don't care if there is a stinking rotting coyote carcass laying nearby.
