John On my Zim 2004 Safari I hunted 21 days in what is probably called the southern OMAY. Check out www.hhksafaris.com
I was in the Manuily Camp. I never saw the Lake, but I did hunt near Matsodonia Natl. Park one day. HHK described the area as good for cow elephant, buff, leopard, just ok for lion, and not a great plains game area. From my previous posts you probably know I took a 50/55 lb bull elephant, 2 cow elephant 2 buff, a good waterbuck, good kudu, a great klipspringer, a great civit cat, jackel baboon a good baboon, a good impala plus 10 more for leopard bait. We saw a lot of male leopard tracks but only got a female in the tree. We saw one set of lion tracks, nefver had a lion hit my bait, but in a camp @40K away a good lion was taken and he shot at a leopard twice, missing both times.
I was very happy with my hunt and the animals I took.
If everything goes to plan I should be in the OMAY this March hunting for croc, hippo and 6 cow elephants. I think I will be in the northern part as I was told there will be some tiger fishing on the lake. I will give you the exact details when I return.

I hunted with Paul and Denny of Negasha Safaries in 04. We(my wife and myself) in hunted the Omay. Thier camp in the area was magnificent. There were plenty of elephant a goodly amnount of buffalo and some of the best Water Buck, in this area, I've seen. Lion are thin. I did take a very nice Leopard but there are better areas. Plains game other than this are average. This is a truly unfenced wilderness area. The ivory will average 35 pounds. There are larger bulls taken (I was lucky), but In todays Africa this is as good as you can hope for on an affordable hunt. There are cows every where and they are agressive. If you are not chased at a regular interval I would be suprised.

Hi John, As you know I have enjoyed two safari's to the Omay north communal area also known as Nyaminyami. On my first eight day hunt I took one Dagger Boy, Impala, Wart Hog and a Zebra with PH Stuart Taylor based at the Fly camp in the Ndepa Hills area (wich no longer exists) and the Ume river camp. We also camped out on the Dete river and Sengwa river junction, sleeping out with our rifles by our sides (a great way to spend a few nights). The second trip was a 2x1 hunt with Nengasha Safaris for two Buff, one cow Ele and plains game with some fishing and bird shooting as well, again with Stuart Taylor. As the Ele were sold out in Omay we were to move on to Chirisa after taking our Buffalo. On this trip we took two nice buff, one a 43" hard bossed Bull the other a gray old Dagger boy. Omay has lots of Ele and has a great variety of terrain from thick Jesse bush to dry rugged hills with spring fed creeks. Although september can be hot the winds off the lake are often cool and provide relief. Your 450 Double should be good for the Ele and if you do not want to cart a scoped rifle over you could always borrow one if required. Some good PH's for this area are Stuart and Mike Taylor, Paul Bennie, Paul Frodsham,Spike Classen, Deon Pistorius and Brian Bird. Cheers, Adam C.

John,
Do you know if he used to hunt with Butch Walker back in 1998?

John,
Butch Walker owned (owns?) a company named Bulembi Safaris (sp?). Most of his concessions were (are?) up around Omay.

I checked the Hunting Report and it has a number of positive reports on Nengasha with other PHs. It is good to see some reports on them there as often many outfitters have nothing listed at all.
