Fancy Shooting

Sunday I went to an "open" style range to do a little plinking with my merkel SxS. I was popping water jugs at 50yds. Some good ole boys had put up clay pigions at 100yds for their .22 varmint rifles. I asked if I could try one with my double. They offered me the bench, I said "don't need it". I knelt down, squeezed one off and blew it to kingdom come. Knowing I could not repeat that in 100 years, I coolly looked at them and said "that will do for today".

Very good indeed !!!

Reminds me of a similar thing that happened in the Army.

My boss, a Captain and I were walking back one night from the Q store
to our platoon office. Between the two buildings there was a Wooden Telegraph
pole and one of our soldiers was practising throwing a knife at the Wooden Pole.
He was just in the process of throwing it when we turned the corner - it didn't stck in.
The captain bent down, picked up the knife, kept walking 5 paces, turned and threw
the knife at the pole whilst still walking. It stuck in 1st go.

We both kept walking and he causally said to me "you only ever do that once" !!!

I think the soldier stood with his jaw open.
