.40+ Express (on a .300WinMag)
      #5043 - 20/11/03 09:55 AM

I am looking for a .40+ calibre (standard lenght action). Would like to build on a .300WinMag., and have been looking at the .425 Express (.423").

On my search for info I came across a picture of a .416 Express (necked up .300WinM.). Is this caliber for real - and does anyone have any info/reports on the .416 Express?

Or should I stay with the .425 Express?

Tuzi R.

Why not go with a 404 or a 416 Rem Mag?

The standard length action would eliminate the 404 and 416 Rem. The 416 Taylor would work.

What type of action do you have? The 404 was designed to fit on the standard Mauser action. It also easily fits on the Winchester. Just a very minor opening up of the rear of the Mauser action and there you have it. The Winchester needs no alteration other than the feed rails and a slight bevel change on the ramp for the bigger bullets.

I have a M1900. Very smooth. Have considered the .416 Taylor, but I got the feeling .425 Express offer better fps and frontal-mass.

Which ever one you deside on of those two the case to start with is the 338 Win Mag case! It is the same case as the 300 win mag, but has already had it's neck expanded to .338, so the jump to .416, or .425 isn't so big a stretch!
