Hi All!
I opened a new topic for this even there are lots of subjects considering The Big J
So i´d like to know i any of you have experience of building 500 Jeffery in std. surplus military Mauser rifle 8x57 (yogoslavian) i think. Should i give a try??
I´m a bit worried about feed of fat cartridge and size of bolt head. CIP drawings that i managed to find says case head for Jeffrey is 14,61mm which is .5752" Pressure (Pmax) of Jeffrey is 3300 bar whic is about 47800 lb/sq.in so in dont think that will be the problem.
So what do you think? Is it a not so good idea which i sould forgot and a buy somewhere a decent modern action.
Sorry my not so fluent english but...

Your own countryman, perfect gentleman, gunwriter and police officer, BoHa has built one and written about it. You should try contacting him for his opinions on this as he worked with a standard MAuser action though I cannot remember which one.
Best wishes and good hunting!

Thank you all for your ansvers.
Don't think ill buy a Hein, ill rather support Finnish gunsmiths propably Mr. Jalonen if any.
Anyway my purpose is build a 500J from old mauser if possible?? Im not considering to buy a new, not even action. If i´d byu a new one it would be a new Mauser 505Gibs.
Mehul, thank you for your advice!
I did found something of Boha thru google, but not enough but i think his guns were made here http://www.bjorkholm.fi/ pick vapenbyggen. Mr. Björkholm is at the moment only Finnish gunsmith specialiced in "elefant guns" as we say here.

Finhunter,
Building a .500 Schuler on a standard 98 is no problem. Schuler did it before Jeffery.
If you want to keep it "original" then you will need to do a single stacked magazine which is not difficult. If you send me an email I can send you dimensions and photos of how an original one is built.

Here is a 500 Jeffery built by Sabi. The owner is a working PH in Zimbabwe and this is his regular rifle. The action is a 98 and the feed is flawless. http://mydrive.roadfly.com/photos/pic.php?u=125735XJP8l&i=3046[/image]

That is a very nice rifle. How much would a Sabi like that cost and are there any extra fees or problems importing to the us?

No problems importing it...
You pay: 11% FET 2% Duty Shipping Charges Insurance Transfer Fee
Of course you have to apply for an import permit, but that's not too difficult a task.

Bulldog563,
Nickudu who is a member here and a moderator at AR is the US agent for Sabi Rifles. You could send him a PM and find more details out.
Cheers!

This one was bought several years ago when the exchange rate was around 12:1 so it was a GOOD buy. Don't remember the price. Go to their web site they have a good one. They are rather easy to import to US I understand but were practically impossible to get into Zimbabwe. They do absolutly first rate work.

Sabi Rifles now import their rifles into a wide range of countries on a regular basis - so it shouldn't be a problem.
