Gentlemen, I would like some information from those of you that have shot and hunted with 577 Nitro Double rifles.

Such as how much your rifle weighed, how was the recoil, what loads did you use, and what did you kill etc.
Thanks

One round I love to talk about! I have handled and shot a few. The fondest one I've shot was a Lancaster at 14.5 lbs with 28in barrels. It hand a lot of the weight between the hands so it felt lighter. I also handled a searcy that was about 14lbs. did not have that light feel, but great gun, very accurate. I've also shot some BPE's and they were alot of fun.

I love the look of Mark Sullivan's 577 it is short light and I'm sure at 11.5 lbs I could not handle it, but is always nice to dream, maybe at 13lbs.

That used to be Owen Rutherford's .577...

What happened to Owen? I know that he died in an accident, but how? He knocked over quite a few 100 pounders in the 70's and 80's.

In Mark,s book he said that he slimmed the forearm to a splinter style (from a beaver style), and replaced a reciver site with express sights. It sure turned out nice!

Boddington mentioned Owen's passing in his book "Safari Rifles." I believe the term he used was "freak accident." I don't know any other specifics other than that.

I did a search on the net for some key words, but came up dry on any hits.
