Always looking to expand my library, what books on double rifles can you recommend? Thanks.

I think I posted on this a few years ago but my list includes several well know ones:

(1) Of course Graeme Wright's "Shooting the British Double Rifle"

(2) Alexander Gray's "The Hammerless Double Rifle,".

(3) Craig Boddington, "Safari Rifles,"

(4) John Taylor, "African Rifles and Cartridges."

(5) Gregor Woods, "Rifles for Africa."

Ross Seyfried in the "Double Gun" Journal. Like vol. 5 issue 4 1994; vol. 6 issue 1 1995; vol. 10 issue 4 winter 1999.

Sherman Bell see 15, issue 1 sprind 2004; and his current serios of express rifle pressure variable in the DGJ.

I also think some of the better double shotgun stuff is useful as far as actions and stocks and things. I wish many of the double rifle writers would get into detail about types of actions, stock measurements and design the way the double shotgun writers doo. Mike McIntosh and Gough Thomas come to mind here.

Have every one besides the woods book. Guess I had better get on it.

Anyone know where I can get a copy of Alexander Gray's book? Been looking around for a while.

Its really hard to find and through the used book sites it runs very high. Last I heard it was almost $200 or so.

Good list so far. Here's a few that are not primarily
dbl rifle books but are full of information on DR.

Classic Sporting Rifles by Christopher Austyn

The Shooting Field with Holland and Holland

Safari by Elmer Keith (amost impossible to find)

The entire set of Double Gun Journals

Modern Sportsman Gun and Rifle Vol 1 and 2 by J H Walsh.
It was origionally printed in 1882 but I got the Wolfe reprint. There is a section on proof loads even.

I can recommend "Notes On Sporting Rifles (for use in India or elsewhere)" by Gerald Burrard , 3. ed. 1932. Burrard is a big advocate of double rifles.
