First of all, I'd like to say congratulations on taking such a fine bull! He's magnificient! As far as Gemsbok mounts go, they are really quite standardized: European Mount, Shoulder Mount, Pedestal Mount, or life size. The Shoulder Mount is probably the most common for those who have the room to display it properly. They're pretty much done up with the head in the naturally carried position, which is straight forward, with a slight turn (the turn should have the longest horn forward). I've seen a couple of mounts that had the head more erect, with the horns laid back along its back, but I prefer the head carried as it appears while walking. The pedestal mount can be very impressive. I just received my taxidermy shipment from last years Safari, which included a pedestal mount of a Zebra. The pedestal has Zebra skin inlays around the base, and my wife commented that it's the most impressive mount in my trophy room. I have to agree with her. It looks great. One advantage of the pedestal mount, is that it can be placed almost anywhere, and frees up wall space for other mounts.

Somewhere, I saw a pedistal mount that had both a good sized bull and a cow that was a little longer, but thinner, horned. They were both slightly turned and one, I think the cow, was a little lower but farther out. The overall effect stuck in my mind as pretty neat.
I took a 39+ inch bull this fall in Namibia and am planning to go back in 2005 to see if I can find a cow to go with it to mount in this fashion.
Gives me an excuse to go back anyways, as if I needed one.

Thanks dudes . I'll do a shoulder mount but I'm still looking for a "different" position. I must read more books to look for pics.
Mikeh, I like very much pedestal mounts, I also got a Zebra into my trophy room this way but I don't have enough place for another mount like this.

Beautiful animal. I have always pictured one of my walls with two Gemsbok, one in each corner, shoulder mounted and looking in to the center of the room. Looking forward to the pictures.

Not offend anyone (I doubt I could, with you lot), and believe you me I want to go to Africa very much, but - why would you want to shoot a zebra, isn't that like shooting a horse?

En respuesta a:

Now I only got a few ideas.... May be because they're very hard to hunt, because they're so pretty, because they're the best baits for leopards, because there are lots of them in some areas, because I like to hunt almost legal animals, because they're always in my license,....
I also like to hunt volwes, even they are like dogs or I like to hunt deers, even they're like goats

Having had a few run ins with not so quiet horses I would agree. That is one reason I enjoy hunting Zebras.
If hunted properly, in the right kind of country, they can be very challenging and they are beautiful.
