Trout in Oz.
      #4930 - 14/11/03 05:50 AM

Do any of you guys fish for Trout? I am trying to put together a trip next August that will include a week or so in SE Victoria. I know there is good Trout fishing around, just not where. Is there a season that is open that late?

I will be Sambar Hunting and would like to combine the two if possible. The guys I'm going with think Trout Flys must have a fuses on them.

What part of se Vic Mickey? River trout tend to be small unless its that time of the year when they come out of the lakes to spawn..the gunpowder option sounds best.......makes me wonder if you are sambar hunting how you could give any of that time up for a fish, the deer reign supreme and the fish come a distant second on the list.
Though if you do fish a quiet river have a rifle handy as quite a few fishermen see deer crossing the rivers, but that is more so in summer when they are not hunted(as much)you never know

Gryphon

I know it is late in the year but I figured to get my 30" Sambar the first morning and than just lollygag around for the rest of the time.

We will be around Omeo somewhere, I can't be more specific as I'm not trusted enough to have that type of information. Probably be blindfolded to camp or something. I love to fish and can always fit in an afternoon or day somehow.

That I would like to see.

Can't help with you question though as I'm not much of a fisherman. The "river" that runs through my land is dry most years 10 or 11 months of a year, but whrn it floods often trout can be found lying in the debris. So someone has some nice seeded waterholes somewhere upriver.

'Somewhere up river' could be Broken Hill.

Well I don't know about Omeo Steve, never heard that, but my friends name is Steve and he does live in Omeo, sometimes anyway.

I'm not sure I should say anything else in case it might incriminate me. If it is the same guy I tried to teach him how to Fly fish in August but he never quite caught on to the concept of a single, barbless hook and a fishing license.

Bakes

Nice Trout. Is that on a Lake? What gear were you using?

Here is a pic of some Silver Salmon caught on Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska. Flys only. The largest is around 24 pounds.

Yes it's the local water skiing lake, the bubbles in the background are the lakes airation system. We used live gudgoen's hooked through the lip, no sinker, just let them float around on light spin gear. Caught 4 that night.

That sounds like a nice way to spend the night. A warm night, some cold Beer, a good Cigar, good companions and easy fishing.
