.510 Gibbs & BMG bullets

I will be building a .510 Gibbs rifle based on the new Montana PH action, so I can use standard .510" bullets. I'd like to be able to singly load and shoot surplus BMG bullets as well. If I throat the barrel long enough to accept BMG spitzers will it appreciably reduce accuracy with shorter round nose hunting bullets? What's the optimum twist for this barrel?

I am not sure what it is but for standard bullets I think that it is about 1:12.

But the twiet rate for heavy 50bmg bullets would proberly quite different then for standard 50 jeffery or 500 nitroexpress bullets which are 100 grains or more lighter!

Todd,

The twist in most .50BMG's is 1-15".

Surplus bullets 647gr bullets are about 25 cents each and should provide a good alternative (price wise) vs hunting bullets.
