Bought a Knight inline muzzleloader today
      #48438 - 29/01/06 02:57 PM

Or rather, my wife bought it for me when she saw that I liked it. She also bought me a can of Goex 2F powder and a nice leather case. I hope to shoot it with a variety of bullet and ball loads over the next few weeks and, am hoping that my wife's buying it for me means that she is getting more interested in guns and hunting.

Life is good, ladies and gentlemen, very good hunting to you!

Excellent!

Before my father passed away he had a couple of fur trade era rifles made for him. He'd been a competitive shooter for most of the earlier portion of his life.
He was a lefty. It wasn't until after he'd died that I realized that the custom rifles he'd had made were set up for a right handed shooter.
I've had great times with his rifles and think of him every time I look at them.
My little seven month old daughter -really- likes his full stocked fifty caliber plains rifle. I'll leave it resting across the rail of her crib so she can run her tiny hands over the dark tiger maple stock and browned iron furniture and lockwork. She'll fall off to sleep with her hand on the wrist of it's stock.

Shooting black powder muzzle loading rifles is great fun.
They're great in the field too, and that new inline rig should be wonderful in terms of accuracy and terminal performance.
Have fun with it!

Came over to the dark side ehh? You will be amazed how well the inlines shoot. Very accurate.

Now to complicate your life you really need to get a BP double...where too much lube or not enough, or cap strength or something else will cause that dang left barrel to not to follow the right. You'll get LOTS of shooting in too, because there are three times the varibles that can effect regulation. Their a blast though.

Tinker,

I have fiddled and shot my partner's CVA and T-C traditional muzzleloaders a bit but this is going to be the first time I shall be shooting an inline. I hope to go after deer this year and get myself a good buck. It is also going to be fun to shoot it as I love the report, the smoke and the very comfortable recoil of a muzzleloader. I'll get some shooting in a couple of weeks and post pictures if I don't put up an embarassing performance.

It must be great to have a little girl who loves guns. She is sure to grow up to be your best hunting companion when she's older.

Colorado,

While waiting for my tax refund, I have been thinking about what else to buy this year. With a Condo buy coming up, I cannot afford a fancy rifle but a Pedersoli double is well within my means. As I told Tinker, if I don't embarass myself with my inline, I'll think about buying the Pedersoli also in 50 cal so that I have common sized bullets for both.

Thanks for the good words and cheers to everyone!

Your in-line shoots sabot's and power-belts, they don't like round balls like the doubles/traditional's. The in-lines have fast, 1-24 or 1-28 twist, for high velocity projectiles. The traditional's have slower 1-48 or even 1-70 (large bore) to handle the round balls. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that you won't be sharing bullets between them. You can shoot the sabot and power-belts, but the accuracy might not be there. Post to Daryl S. he is a wealth of information on this. I'm still a newbie/wannabe BP guy. Oh yeah, be sure to close your car door when shooting Pyrodex, the smoke STINKS like fart's, and your wife will blame YOU for it. <---I know...believe me I know....

I don't think you can go wrong with the Pedersoli Kodiak 12 bore as a first double (if you don't have one yet), I'm not embarrassed at all with mine. It's not a $50000.00 gun, but dang that sucker SHOOTS and thats all that is important. If you've read my post on it, I've been working it up to DG loads, and achieved 1600fps/545grn ball, with 165 grains FFg this weekend. Composite groups are still 3" and the gun is holding up fine. This is considered a light DG load, good for lions, leopard and any plains and or NA game. For Buff I need to get it shooting above 1700fps or ~3500FPE. TKO for .72 is huge, 113 to 140, it makes one big hole.

Chasseur,

Thanks for the good words. What I am proudest of is the fact that my wife bought it, a hint that she is definitely interested in shooting it.

Colorado,

Daryl S and I have had some communication in the past and yes, he is a fantastic guy - incredibly helpful and very enthusiastic in sharing his expertise. I am planning to buy some bullets and then break the barrel in with Bore Butter as one of the members here advised me to in an e-mail. We did shoot some MLs when I went on a deer hunt at my partner's property though we used 2F powder and not Pyrodex. Both my wife and I got a kick out of the cloud of smoke that came out of the rifle every time we fired it. Thanks for the advice and I'll be careful not to get the lady upset because of the smell.

Thanks for the encouragement and good hunting!
