I had an idea for using warthog tusks as cabinet handles in my kitchen. I put them on the upper doors. A friend who's a very good woodworker made a wooden insert so a screw could be used to hold the tusk on the cabinet like a regulat handle would be. He also filled them with epoxy to add strength.
I have several pairs and here's what they look like, very functional!
Have any of you done some interesting crafty things in your homes?

Ann, that is way cool! My mind isn't creative enough to come up with something like that. Have you ever considered interior decorating?

Sure have, Mike, but you know, no one wants to pay! I could do way better than the folks at HGTV even!
Anyway, I am available for consultation!

Fantastic use of warthog tusks.
I have also seen smaller impala horns used similarly and especially nice as handles on hinged double doors.

I would much rather grab hold of a bit of warthog ivory or antler than a piece of plastic! Marvellous stuff!

I saw a good use of the tips of a small water buffalo in India last month. It had to be quite thin horns though.
Have to remember what they used them for, and where I have a photo, or it may have been in a magazine??? Have to search the slow grey matter ........
