404 Projectiles
      #46456 - 12/01/06 11:28 PM

I am presently working up loads for my 404 Jeffrey. I am setting up the open sights for 400grain Woodleighs but would like some lighter weight, and relatively ballistically efficient, projectiles to work up loads for the QD mounted scope. These lighter weight projectiles, 300 to 350 grains, will be used for plains game.

What projectiles have any 404 owners tried and found worthwhile?

I have used the Woodleigh 350 gr. bullet and the Swift 400 gr. I get about the same size groups with both (around 1 1/2") and velocity averages 2400 fps. I, however, do not use RL-15 or any of the other medium burn powders but I have found that both IMR and Hodgdon 4350, regular or short kernal produce better velocities, accuracy and no more perceived recoil. My charges with these bullets run from 90-94 grains and no indication of high pressure.
