400/360 with Woodleigh 9.3,286gr.

I have a 400/360 Lang that I am developing a load for using this bullet. Has anyone taken a deer or hog with this combination and if so did you get good expansion. Your input will be appreciated.

CFA,

First of all I'd check that your 400/360 is .366 before shoving 9.3mm bullets down it
as they all had lots of variation.

Re expansion, suggest using RN 286gns if any.

Go by Woodleigh's recommended impact velocities and
you will be fine. RN also open up at lower velocities.

If it is the .366 the Woodleigh 320s would come closest to approximate the original 314 gr. Be careful, as some guns were made in .360 or .361.

You are right, some of my freinds have some variations. However, we have slugged these barrels and they are fine.
I may try the RN 286, but I would like to use the Woodleigh because I like it's construction and similarity to the original Kynoch ammo. Woodleigh also performs well in my 500/465.

Which 400/360 do you have ?

or
What are the proof marks.

I know a number of people here who have got there 400/360
to shoot with a variety of bullet weights regardless of what
it is proofed for - as sual with DR's it is easier to get guns
to shoot with Lighter bullets.

What 500/465 is it ? Not a Holland by any chance that came
from Australia ?

FYI, my WR Droplock 400/360 is .362 !!!

This rifle is a Joseph Lang 400/360 Purdey type, proofed for Cordite 40 - 300 max. 360 EX. The barrels slug at .364 . I know your WR is a different type.

The 465 is a Holland & Holland Dominion 500/465 I imported from Paul Roberts in London. It's on page 216 of Dallas's book, great condition.

If any of your friends have used the .366 Woodleigh 286gr in a 400/360 Purdey type on game I would like to know how it performed.

CFA,

I'll ask them.

What velocity are you gettting expecting ?

I have shot quite alot of game with the 286gn out of a 9.3mm
at all velocities and it worked great.

Got to go, will fill you in later.

I would expect about 1950 at the muzzle but might ease it up if needed. Look forward to hearing from you.
