I just got home from and evening hunt close to the house. The bucks were chasing the does around like crazy tonight. None of the bucks were shooters to me so I let them walk. I passed on 3 different 8 points and a small 6 point. They were all within 10-20 yards of my stand. A good night. Anyway, one of the does circled around and came back by herself. As she came my way she stopped right in my shooting lane 25 yards away & broadside

I had no choice but to shoot her

I am still amazed at how lethal modern compund bows can be. This was a steep angle shot because I was hunting a trail on a hillside. I placed the arrow high behind the near shoulder and it exited low just behind the off leg. She kicked, ran 40 yards and I watched her pile up from the stand. The blood trail was so big I could see it from my treestand 26 feet up in the air! It started right at my arrow stuck in the ground after a complete pass through and was 18 " wide! Upon dressing the doe I found that I took out both lungs and the main artery on top of the heart. She literally never knew what hit her and died within seconds of the shot. The broadhead I used was a fixed head, 100 grain NAP Thunderhead. I have used expandables in the past with similar results.

Archery is all about shot placement. Put a hole through both lungs of any animal on Earth and you will get similar results. The key is to practice and know what your maximum range is. I shoot several times a week through out the hunting season to make sure everything is in tune.......including myself LOL.

Whenever I hear stories of deer that got away after being hit it is always because of poor shot placement or shooting at an animal that is alert and knows something is wrong. That is why I never shoot at an animal if it has winded me and is ready to jump & run at the slightest noise. That is just asking for trouble.

Now I just need one of the big bucks in my area to get within 30 yards or so
