Reloading Help for a DR
      #45541 - 02/01/06 05:27 PM

I am brand new to reloading. I have recently put a deposit on a double rifle and plan on reloading for it. It will be a 500NE. Is there a book or other resource that I can get to fully explain reloading. At the moment I really know next to nothing about reloading besides common sense stuff. Does anyone have a complete equipment list of what I would need to start reloading for a 500 and a resource to thoroughly explaing the process and principles involved? Thanks in advance.

There are any number of basic guides to reloading, however one of your countrymen will have to advise on the most logical current offering stateside. In Australia the recommendation would be the latest edition of "Nick Harvey's Practical Reloading Manual".

In addition to the basic guide, you will also need Graeme Wright's invaluable book "Shooting the British Double Rifle". It assumes you already know the basics, and moves on to the nitro and BP double rifle cartridges.

Hope this helps.

Suggest you also buy

A Square's Any Shot you Want

I think Art Alphin + 1 other wrote it.

It has alot on relaoding and alot of load data
on old English Calibres.

It is a very useful reference book.

Checking over my reloading bookshelf:

Any Shot You Want - Art Alphin, Craig Boddington, et al

Metallic Gartridge Reloading - McPherson

Handloading For Competition - Zediker

Precision Shootig Reloading Guide - Brennan

The ABC's of Reloading - James

NRA Reloading Manual

Sinclair International's Precision Shooting and Reloading Handbook-Gravatt and Sinclair

Shooting the British Double Rifle

The regular reloading guides put out by bullet and powder makers, but only Barnes and Hogdon have information on the 470NE and nothing for the 500NE. But all of them are good sources for general reloading information.

Can't have too much information when resting your cheek behind two "bombs".

My bench is pretty simple - Go to Home Depot or Lowes, pick us an unfinished SOLID wooden door, get a couple of their cheap kitchen floor cabinets and mount the door to the top. I do put a sealer on the top surface of the bench to make it easier to clean up and powder spills ad such.

Best of luck!
