Price seems to be in the ballpark. Restock looks nicely done and George doesn't fib about bore condition. Cordite 70, 480 Max is the older .500/.450 NE load. The cartridge eventually standardized at 75 Cordite. The .500/.450 Hollands don't bring as much as the .465s. Nice weight for a .450.

Any opinions on it being a dominion grade?

"Dominion" seems to be the name generally used for that model in the US, but I don't know how technically correct that is. IIRC, Holland referred to it as the Grade 2.

BTW, it seems to be generally agreed that Holland did not make these themselves, but had them made for them in Birmingham. Some sources say they were from Webley & Scott. A guy I know who apprenticed in Brum in the '40s says they came from Pople & Bennett. They're good quality guns though.

As 400 says, Dominion is a name that came up but it is probably a grade 2 or 3.

As to who build it, Webley & Scott probably as they built every Holland
prior to 1893 ? and some after.

As to good grade, the "Dominion" action as per this one is generally known
as the Strongest Sidelock actins around and one Holland liked building DR's
on, particulalry the larger calibres.

The ones I have seen, held and shot have all been well balanced, nice fitting guns.

These are also good ways of getting a Holland DR without having to buy a Royal.

500 Nitro:

Yeah, W. & C. Scott is supposed to have built the Hollands prior to 1893. They sold a lot of "Seven-Patent Scotts" with the Holland name on them. The "Dominions" sure look like Scott back-locks, especially the later ones (the lock-plate shape changed in the early '20s - the dipped edge became much less angular). I've always assumed that they came from Scott (Webley & Scott after '97).
