BLASER S2 Big Bore Rifles
      #45150 - 29/12/05 02:40 PM

Has anyone hunted with one of these against dangerous game? How did it go , did the rifle do what it should? I am shopping S x S big bores and price DOES matter, NOT more than QUALITY but my income level requires me to look at reliability as the top issue and looks as next to NOTHING!

Are you familiar with how the S2 cocks? It does NOT cock with the gun being opened or closed. There is a separate thumb devise for cocking the gun AFTER you load and close the gun. In my opinion, this design does NOT belong on a dangerous game rifle.

Now that you mention it, I DO remember being told/shown that in the Griffin and Howe Store in New Jersey, USA. If one is pressed to reload quickly and slam the gun closed to fire two more shots, one does NOT want to have to do anything more than PULL THE TRIGGERS!!! I'd say that this rifle is out of the picture. Thank you for the input.

You might check out Searcy or Merkel. I think they are about the same price and both very good quality. I personally prefer the Searcy.

Blasers sure are pretty. And the whole floating barrel thing is a great selling point.

I was considering one until I joined this site and used the search tool on the DR board. You will find much more than what you have found.

The people on this board are great. The salt of the earth. I have had offers to shoot someone elses double just to see if the caliber involved was for me.

I thought I did my homework until I started asking questions here. I did a lot more homework after that.

I am picking up my DR in January at the DSC. Can't go wrong with a 470 NE as your first.

Good luck and happy hunting.

I own one, and I love it. One of the most accurate doubles I have ever owned

Bulldog

I am picking up a Heym 470 NE. Chopper lump barrels, a third fastener, Greener lock, outstanding wood, and a beaver tail foreend. I kknow there are a lot of beaver haters here, but I love beaver. Seriously, I prefer the beaver ends for my larger hands.

And, if Heym is true to form, it will be one accurate mofo. And my German bride will love me too.....

Regarding the Blaser S2 in big game calibre:

I have one and my opinion is that before you have an opinion on the cooking device you should at least have tried it. Of course if you find it enough to try two shots with a rifle and then go on a DG hunt the Blaser isn't a good idea.

But after firing more than 200 shots I say it's in the spine, also it is a good feeling to know when you are walking with the gun knowing that it is totaly safe.

Found it in Houston - Eurogun Imports. Came highly recommended by Gray Thornton at DSC.

walking with the gun knowing that it is totaly safe.

So? When I walk with ANY of my guns I know they are totally safe because of good safety procedures.
