The recently purchased CZ550 American Safari Mdl in 416 Rigby proved to be a very good buy. The metal work is perfectly acceptable, the rifle is accurate, the factory sights are on with the 100 yard blade and Federal 410 Woodleighs, and it feeds smooth as silk. The wood is a nice dark red walnut with considerable figure...dense and straight grained in the wrist. Not enough drop to use the iron sights easily... , however.

The machine checkering is a bit fussy, and not altogether the best of it's ilk. The recoil pad isn't that cheap waffled type on my past CZ 550's, but is a nicer rounded edge, solid side, dark gray, soft pad that doesn't hang up in clothes.

Many don't like the CZ triggers, but I have used similar set triggers for most of my life on drillings and cape guns, so I appreciate the CZ single set trigger, and its many adjustments.

All in all, for the $640.00 including shipping I paid for the rifle NIB was $$$ well spent.

That is nice to hear about the CZ. As a die hard Winchester fan, the biggest disappointment in terms of bolts that I have seen have been the newer Win's on the market. I have wondered how the CZ's stack up, because I am not a Ruger bolt fan at all. (My pre-64's that are always refered to as clubs feel like beautifully crafted, fast and lively English rifles in comparison to every Ruger bolt I have shouldered.)

I have a friend that is dying to get a new hunting rifle for all of North America, and wants to try my .375. If he likes it, he will be on the market for a rifle in the classic Holland offering, and being that hes on a budget, the CZ will fit the bill for him. I will pass that information on to him the next time I talk with him.

500 is a nice round number, either followed by "Nitro Express" or by "cubic inch displacement".

I have heard that the CZ's have pretty nice wood underneath that horrible paint they put on their stocks. There is a pretty good thread on AR showing before and after pics of refinished CZ's. It is definitely worth a look.
