Today my son finally out shot me.

My son is 16. We hunt and shoot together a lot. I think it's our tightest bond. He's been using most of my rifles and shotguns until now. For Christmas I gave him an early present, a Benelli M2.
I average 19 out of 25 at the trap range and he's always right behind. Lately I have to really concentrate as he's getting close.
Today he said "Dad looser buy's lunch". Like he would pay anyway. We shot 3 rounds of trap. I beat him 19 to 16, 18 to 17 and he finally beat me 18 to 17. Though I pretended to be mad and pout I was sure proud. I still bought lunch.

foxfire

I am just about to introduce my 15 year old son to DTL trap. It's been a long time since I have shot myself so I think that I will sneak out and get a few practice rounds in before I take him out.

I know what you mean though - one part of me wants to thrash him but the other part wants him to just beat me - eventually !!

375Fetish,
It was easy to beat up on him for the first few months. I had a good time harrassing him about it too. But he is fast, has a keen eye and all he needed were the proper tools and I was history. This was only his second time out with the new Benelli. He's awesome to watch while waiting. I knew yesterday he was going to catch me. I'm a lefty and was having a bit of a problem with positions 4 and 5.
But in the end I walked out proud and he was high fiving everyone at the range having beaten his old man.

I ought to sneak off and take lessons so I can kick his ass next week.

Great story Foxfire!

Two years ago I started teaching my girlfried to shoot skeet and sporting clays. She's taken to it quite nicely. On her first hunting trip we were up jump shooting ducks and geese in Southeast Alaska. As we were walking out in the saw grass flats she tells me, "Hey what are those? Are those ducks flying in?" Being a dolt I didn't even see them. I tell her to duck down and wait for them to pass over. We do it. As the get within range I tell her to rise up and take our shots. She fires twice, I blaze away with both barrels, nothing falls... I do my quick reload with my ejector gun and pull off two more shots. Nothing falls. I stand there for a second and wonder to myself, then she says, "Hey look I got one!! I got one!!!" She got a nice mallard, first time hunting, while me her "shooting and hunting instructor" got absolutely nothing with four shots I felt so proud of her. But not nearly as proud as she was.

The picture of her with her duck, her Beretta O/U, and in her camo is on the wall in her law office! She's great!

Chasseur,
Everyonce in a while, the pupil beats the teacher.
It is with mixed emotions that we congratulate them and bow our heads in defeat with our proud chests pumping as hard as possible.
Our students (sons, wives and girlfriends) make us so very proud.

Now back to kicking the butts all over again.

Good stories guys!

I look forward to teaching my kids in the future, and hope they eventually beat me at shooting too! Which would be proof that they've been well taught.

I got out yesterday with my son pheasant hunting. Everytime a bird went up he fired once and poof the bird went down. My turn, sometimes one shot sometimes two shots. The kid is getting really good. We had a really great day.
I'm really proud of him, but I have to figure a way to take away the new Benelli and give him back his old clunker. I know I could still beat him then.

What a proud father you must be! Lucky devils, both of you.
