Thanks for the interesting links Bob.
It's always fun to see what life was like in Africa and elsewhere for explorers such as the Johnsons back in the old days.

Osa Johnson
Was there ever a cuter package to carry a rifle in Africa?

Some might argue in favor of Cindy Garrison, although I do believe that Osa was more of a skilled huntress, and knew more about the country, animals and people than Cindy.

I agree. Plump as a partridge and just as appealing.

I thought some here may find this of interest. This is the list of their guns as listed in "I Married Adventure". From the "Four Years in Paradise" period which is 1924-1928 (if I remember correctly).
3 English Blands, .470, double-barrel 1 English Bland, .275, Mannlicher action 1 American Springfield, .303, Mauser action [Obviously an editing error. The rifle was probably in .30-06 Springfield. (Or maybe ".30-03"? Close to ".303"; an editing error maybe?). "Mauser action" must have meant a bolt action as a descriptive term. I have seen photos of this rifle and it is a Springfield action. I read somewhere that it was a Griffin & Howe sporter. See pic below. - Bob] 1 English Rigby, .505, Mauser action 3 American Winchesters, .405, lever action 1 American Winchester, .32, lever action 2 English Jeffries [sic], .404, Mauser action 1 American Winchester shotgun, .12, double-barrel 1 American Ithaca, .20, double-barrel 1 American Ithaca, .20, saw-off [sic] shotgun, called riot gun 1 .38 Colt revolver 1 .45 Colt revolver
Hmmmmm........ I'd say they had a nice little battery!!!!

I bought this these books for my wife to read, so that she would get interested in going to Africa. The Johnsons also were very excellent aviators, which first attracted me to their story. Imagen combining my two greatest loves, Aviation and Hunting! Life couldn't get any better than that!

Thanks for the info about the article in Sporting Classics! I'd like to read it. I don't subscribe to the magazine but I'll try to find a copy.
