I at least admitted I was off base on some of my comments.

Well anyway looks like that is the end of this thread !!

Thanks for all the feedback to my question on the 416 differences. As usual good advice and feedback.

The .416 Chatfield Taylor is the cheapest and easiest to reload and is obviously a very powerful and manageable cartridge. I have killed several buffalo with this gun, A high shoulder shot sets them to shuddering prior to collapse, a posterior shot drops them ready for the second shot, if needed, I use Woodleighs, and they are magnificent.

This thread certainly went downhill! We could go on and on forever, but I agree with the others...lighten up...ya just gotta move on when some one disagrees with your opinion. Don't take it as a personal attack.

Was thinking about the speed comments about the X...could it be that an all copper bullet like this could act as a solid if driven too fast due to the bullet expanding down to the base of the cavity in the first couple inches of penetration, shedding the petals, and then just driving on through? I have never driven the X to super fast speed, maybe that is why I have had such favorable results with it. I do know for a fact that a "conventional" bullet will blow up with very shallow penetration if impact velocity is too high. Maybe the "super premiums" fail in the opposite way? Hmmm...

Hope everyone had a good Christmas!

416rigby,

The speed I drove the Barnes at may well be the "issue" with them.
