Cheap .500 NE Double! ...but U/O???
      #43008 - 04/12/05 10:17 PM

Here's one for the punters!

Ruger Red Label on steroids!

No mention of total mass, but all you fellas who like light-weight .500NEs should have a ferret running around in your trousers by now!

Anyone interested?

Marrakai,

I think that is the same gun I was offered about 6 years ago.

I think it was made by the gunsmith in NSW or Qld
who made 375 Flanged Magnum DR's on the Ruger
Red label.

500 Nitro

500 NITRO EXPRESS DOUBLE RIFLE
500 Nitro Express made by Ron Webb based on a Ruger 12g action.I believe only three were made on the large action -all in 500.Several more were made on the 20g action in 375 Flanged. This firearm regulates very well and is in excellent condition. - VG

I sold this rifle to another member of the board some time ago.
The weapon was,at that stage being restocked and I had some work done on it that the other member was unhappy about. After some haggling he became the new owner and redid the work to his satisfaction. The rifle has story to tell and I invite the member who visits reularly to give an update as to how it has all worked out for him.
By the way that's my Cape buff shot in the Zambesi Valley in 1991 (but with a 378 Weatherby).

Mickey, I think that one must really be aimed at you and your featherweight Thys 577 NE!!
It must be hard to hold a steady bead with all that ferreting going on?
Would a couple of pounds of lead frighten the ferret away do you think?

Most likely a good thing that you didn't buy it.
Rumour has it that at least one top ender well versed in big recoil found that particular gun to be a bit more than too much!
But then another rumour put the weight at a mere 8 1/2 pounds!
Ha, rumours!

Geez, I think the recoil pad is about 2 inches too short for that weight rifle!

Man, you talk about whip your ass! That rifle has to kill on both ends!

I am new to the world of double rifles (but not sXs shotguns). But I am getting up to speed fast.

As for this particular rifle, I would be inclined to reverse it and have the target shoot at me if I wanted to survive the encounter.

Hey, do African Buffs have an appendage for a trigger pull? Just a thought
