I am getting a leather covered recoil pad, trap grip cap, 1 fixed+2 or 3 folding sights, americase. For engraving I am considering getting a deep chisel pattern with the Big 5... something like the DR in the Purdey catalog. The same rifle is on their website.

http://www.purdey.com/expressdouble.php

I really like the pattern but Butch told me it would take an extra year to do and since I have an ele hunt in june I might just have no engraving done before I pick it up to shorten the build time and then when I return from Botswana have the job done complete with false sideplates. It should be pretty cool. Anyone's suggestions would be appreciated.

One area where I am not sure what to do is on the fore end. Since this will be my first DR I have no real experience as to the pro's and con's of the different fore end shapes. Does Butch do different shapes on request? I haven't talked to Butch about this yet and I am sure he will be most helpful, but I would like to have as much info as possible before speaking with him on monday. If anyone has advice/pictures of different styles with any insight it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Pictures would be especially helpful because I only know of/seen a few different styles.

Hi,

I'm the proud owner of a Searcy 500NE PH

I managed to talk Butch into a semi-beavertail fore end. I really wanted a full beavertail but Butch explained that on a big bore double you have to hold onto the barrels by wrapping your fingers around the barrels (not just the fore end) to prevent the fore end from ripping off under recoil.

If you don't the "loop" (fore end attachment point) isn't strong enough to prevent the recoil from pulling the fore end loose from the barrels. If your not hanging onto the barrels you just might have the rear sight blade planted in your forehead and nothing else but the fore end in your hand after it goes bang. But hey, don't let that scare you

Roi

The new ones have a new adjustment for regulating. Even in 375 and above!
