All,

I know this is not a double rifle question and this may be bad form, but the guys on this post are very responsive.

So, below I am reposting something I put on the rifles page:

All,

My father recently purchased a rifle that was supposed to be a 300 weatherby. Upon further inspection, we have found it to be a 300 hoffman. Does anyone have any experience with the cartridge?

We took a chamber cast and it appears very similar to the weatherby. Can you shoot weatherby ammo in it?

If not, we will probably rechamber it to 30-378, as it is the only larger case in .30 caliber.

Thanks.

bipbigbore,

No idea what a 300 Hoffman is but if your rifle was made by Hoffman Arms it may be very valuable unaltered. Just check with someone who may know...

Best wishes and do post pictures here if you find time.

Should be a reformed .300 H&H. I believe you can fire .300 H&H in it to fire form. Don't take my word for it, though. Post this question over at Shooting Sportsman BBS or the Gunshop.com Double Gun forum. Michael Petrov hangs out there and can answer your question better.

it is a .300 H&H with a sharp shoulder. As best I recall the body taper was not changed. Have a box of brass somewhere but cannot find it.
