Boy am I confused. Hope readers can help me here. Is the 9,3x74R legal for dangerous game? Some PH tells me that the 9,3 is a fine calibre and suiteable for buff and elephant, and no need for anything bigger. A couple of arms-manufactures (European) claims that the min. is .375 and that one is required to have a .40+ for back-up. Thank you.
The 9.3 x74 is right on the cusp of legality. Most countries stipulate a .375 or larger and 4000 ft/lbs as minimum but they also allow the 9.3. No one is going to tell you that you can't use it because of legal reasons.
However, it is marginal in the poop department. It is closer to a .35 Whelan than a .375 H&H. Much DG has been taken, by people who have nothing else, with the 9.3 x 74 and it's bolt twin the 9.3x 62 but a 40. cal and over is more desirable.
I would rather not shoot an ele with one but would if it was all that I had. Whether or not the PH would let you is another question.
