looking for double
      #41358 - 12/11/05 02:56 PM

Hello again all. I would really like ot get a decent usable double but am not wealthy by any stretch of the word. I know I cant afford H&H or Rigbys or Purdeys or anything of that sort so I was thinking about maybe looking for an older hammergun in a black powder cartridge. I think these guns do not have the same value as their newer counterparts. Any information about these guns or where I could find one would be most helpful. I also already cast bullets and handload black powder 45-70s so it would be neat to do so for an odd ball english round too. I have also seen the Krieghoffs and Merkels and the like and while affordable comapred to the others they are still a bit pricey for me. I have also seen advertisements for the Spartan Gunworks double in 45-70 and am kinda interested in it. I own a Baikal shotgun and I like it so I thought I mught look into one of those. Any info on them would be good too. And also the Pedersoli/Cabela's Kodiak double in 45-70. Anyone know anything about them? I was really hoping to get an english caliber but for the money I may have to settle for 45-70. Anyways any info you all can give will be most appreciated. Thanks.

Talk to your local Remington dealer and ask when they will be able to order one of the new, low priced Remington Spartan double rifles. Thirty ought Six and 45-70 are the offerings for the US market.

For the price the Pederosoli in 45/70 or 9,3x74R is a good rifle. My brother had one in 45/70 and o shot it quite a bit. i have also shot another posters a few times.
For use in the USA it is an excellent choice.
For a nitro Express calibre double I recommend you look at Chapuis, Krieghoff, Merkel, Searcy, Blaser, and Heym.
Pick the one you like the best.

A Chapuis in 9,3x74R [scoped] makes a gread medium bore double, suitable for all North American game. I have one and like it a lot.
